MEet Mr. Dargis!

Picture
Mr. Tyler Dargis is a proud graduate of Dakota High School and currently serves as Director of Choirs at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan. Having once been a student in the Dakota Choir program himself, returning to lead the program has been both a personal and professional full-circle experience.

Raised within Chippewa Valley Schools, Mr. Dargis developed a passion for music and performance at a young age through the district’s performing arts programs. Those experiences helped shape his love for choir, musical theatre, and music education and continue to inspire the work he does with students each day.

Mr. Dargis earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Oakland University, where he performed with multiple nationally recognized ensembles and participated extensively in choral performance, Solo & Ensemble, honors choirs, and summer music programs throughout Michigan.

Under Mr. Dargis’ leadership, Dakota Choirs has experienced tremendous growth and statewide recognition through MSVMA State Choral Festival, Solo & Ensemble, Musical Theatre events, statewide honors ensembles, and invitational performances. Dakota students have earned some of the top reported State Choral Festival scores in Michigan, including a historic perfect 90/90 at MSVMA State Choral Festival in 2025. The program has also received recognition through the MSVMA All-State Festival Gala Concert, the Michigan Music Conference, All-State Honors Choirs, and statewide adjudicated musical theatre events.

In 2026, Dakota senior AJ Denomme became the first student in Dakota and Chippewa Valley Schools history to win the Male Sutton Foster Award for the State of Michigan and advance to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards®) in New York City. That same year, Dakota Choirs was selected as the featured choir for Foreigner’s national tour performance at Pine Knob Music Theatre.

Mr. Dargis is especially passionate about creating innovative, high-energy performance experiences that combine traditional choral excellence with contemporary performance, musical theatre, movement, and student leadership opportunities. His goal is for every student to feel challenged, supported, inspired, and valued while developing lifelong musical skills, friendships, and memories through the performing arts.

Above all, Mr. Dargis believes music education has the power to transform lives by creating confidence, belonging, creativity, and community for every student who walks into the choir room.
